In any field you're trying to succeed in, there must be a specific reason for doing what you've ventured to do.
For whatever reason please be sure to keep the following in mind:
1. Will I be paid or compensated?
2. Do I need management? This is a touchy subject with some people.
- Management is there to depict the bs from the legit & to gain you more exposure & work.
Quality & Quantity are number one. If your management does not have your best interest in mind, then you'd be better off managing yourself at your own pace.
Quality: The type of work that is being found for you. The first thing you must think about it how you want to be represented in the industry. How much respect do you want to gain and keep it? I cannot answer this for you. Everyone has their own ideas of why they have ventured into this & everyone has their own perception of what they want out of it. Just keep in mind, your choices now reflect the type of work you will get in the future.
Quantity: Does your manager have your best interest in mind?
What kind of gigs are they getting for you?
Are they promoting you in the best way possible?
Do they take your individual situations into consideration?
Are they evenly supporting each one of their models?
Do they have proper representation?
What are their standards?
What type and how many connects are involved?
Are you getting the proper exposure through them?
3. Exposure is the key
If a model is not willing to invest in themselves every now and then, no one else
will.
Management will only expose you so much. Most of it is up to the model to gain their own exposure from the type of crowd they want it from. Having a social network is a great way to do this! Not only does it show who you are, but it enables you to network with different types of people. Dedication is very important. A lot of time & energy is needed to succeed.
4.Work
What type of work are you getting?
*Magazines/Print and/or Websites: How big of a name are they?, What is their Marketing preference? Are they published or online?, Who runs the mag? What type of exposure do they get? What is the crowd they want to attract?
*Party Hosting: Are you getting paid to host?, Location?, Out of pocket expenses/reimbursement? Length of stay?
*Music Videos: Paid or Exposure only?, Indie or Main Stream artist? Type of video? Role you're playing?
5. What is your main purpose?
Do you want attention or do you have a along term goal you're trying to reach in modeling? If you're only in it for some attention I can promise you this is a dead end road.
I have described to the best of my knowledge certain in's and outs. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact me on any of the above listed resources.
